Our family’s story begins with AJ Seal, an architect known for his distinctive Art Deco style, which is evident in his buildings. AJ Seal designed numerous buildings offices in London and notably Bournemouth. Some of his most iconic local buildings include; the Echo Office Building on Richmond Hill in Bournemouth, which is now a listed building, and the Harbour Heights Hotel in Poole. Additionally, AJ Seal played a key role in the development of Bournemouth’s Westover Road in the 1930s, where he designed the Palace Court Hotel, the Palace Court Theatre, the Westover Ice Rink, and Westover Motors. He also designed a number of unique private houses throughout the south coast.
AJ’s son followed his father into the Architectural business and work as a drawing technician, subsequently, his son Rodney Seal, founded Seal Designs and has completed many projects including, new houses, extensions and several villas in Greece.
Rodney Seal, although retired, will continue in an advisory role in Seal Designs
I have worked with Rodney for the last 4 years obtaining practical experience while studying for a Batchelor of Arts degree in Architecture at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) graduating in the summer of 2024 with first-class honours and nominated for the RIBA student prize bronze award. Also receiving two further prizes from the faculty.
